just go and do and try
After working to delineate what exactly I wished to cover in this project, I started by doing what I generally have the hardest time doing: just going for it.
No plan, no intention, just a rough idea and a location.
When my grandmother moved into the memory care home where she currently resides, my father became her power of attorney. It was agreed among the extended family that her house would need to be sold. It so happened that in that point in time my sister had begun her new job and was looking to move out of her old apartment (where I currently live). And so, after much deliberation and seemingly excessive paperwork, my sister bought my grandmother’s house.
She is now in the process of cleaning and organizing and redecorating the house into her own home. And yet at the moment, being just a couple months after my sister has moved in, the house that was my grandmother’s still has traces of her in places I never would have expected.
I spent the afternoon with my sister, exploring places and spaces in the home that still have traces of Memere. I’m doing my best to capture them before it’s all gone.
